The heritage of the Fire Department in Elburn has been one of growth, innovation, and adaptation. "A flourishing organization is the Elburn Fire Department. Organized on September 19, 1882, it has steadily grown in strength and popularity until the present time (1934)," according to an article in a 1934 issue of the Elburn Herald.  Although the referenced article is 90 years old.  The Elburn Fire District still keeps the same reputation.

Currently operating our Initial Arriving Response Force out of 3 Fire Stations, we pride ourselves on our members, who are the highest quality of trained professionals ready to respond to any potential hazard twenty-four hours a day. We are a “personnel driven and data supported” organization.  Holding ourselves accountable to our adopted Service Delivery Objectives, established in 2018:

The ECFPD desires to have, an Initial Arriving Response Force, on scene in 6 minutes or less 80% of the time, to all areas of our district.  The priority of the Initial Arriving Response Force will remain Life Safety, Incident Stabilization, Property Conservation and when needed, initiating ALS intervention.

Training, mentoring and developing our members paired with expert analysis of data specific to our unique fire district has allowed our organization to flourish.

Using a uniform set of criteria, incorporating nationally recognized standards developed by the National Fire Protection Association and American Water Works Association, ISO issues a Public Protection Classification (PPC) grade rated 1 (best) to 10 (does not meet minimum requirements).  Jurisdictions who serve both rural areas without hydrants, and areas where hydrants are readily available can be awarded a split rating so that properties with hydrants would be credited better than those without.

Effective February 1, 2020, the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District was awarded an ISO Class 2 certification, for all hydrated areas within the fire district.  All rural areas within 1,000 feet of an approved draft hydrant will also be an ISO PPC 2.  Any areas within the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District within 5 road miles from one of our Fire Station(s) or an auto-aid station and greater than 1,000 feet from a hydrant or approved draft hydrant has been awarded an ISO Class 4 certification! The Elburn Fire District has a strong history of excellence in rural fire suppression, and we are proud to continue that legacy.

This score places us in the top 3.5% of the over 46,000 departments evaluated in the United States.

The Elburn Fire District has a reputation earned by those who came before us.  It is with great respect we build on this reputation and history and continue to move this organization forward, and never settle for “maintaining.”
